Mr. ARUN NARAYAN. M
B.E.-MECH 2005-2009 Batch Assistant Vice President - Business Strategy – Chennai, Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Ltd.My name is Arun Narayan, and I obtained my mechanical engineering degree from RMK Engineering College in 2009. After that, I had the opportunity to work with well-known brands like Samsung Electronics and Michelin Tyres before pursuing an MBA from IIM Bangalore. Following my MBA, I spent almost six years with the CK Birla Group before moving on to my current role as an Assistant Vice President (Business Strategy) at Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Ltd.
People often ask me how I transitioned from being a mechanical engineer to a business leader. In my opinion, strong business leaders need to possess skills such as critical reasoning, effective communication, and people management. Looking back, I credit my time at RMK Engineering College for providing me with a solid foundation in these areas. I have fond memories of the personal care and support provided by my professors, who motivated me to lead symposiums and paper presentations. I also appreciated the various workshops conducted to enhance our aptitude and communication skills.
Whenever I talk about my college, I always mention the food, which was undoubtedly one of the highlights of my college experience. Since graduating, I’ve had the opportunity to sample various cuisines in India and abroad, but I still maintain that the food at my college was some of the best I’ve ever had. I believe that the staff’s personal care and affection was reflected in the food, which made it taste just like home-cooked meals.
I would like to express my gratitude to the founder chairman, vice chairman, management, and professors for their unwavering commitment to shaping students into responsible citizens who positively impact society. I would also like to extend my thanks to the management, professors, staff, and my batchmates who contributed significantly during my foundational years, which laid the groundwork for my success today.
Mr. SAHADEVAN AYYAPPAN
B.E.-MECH 2005-2009 Batch Solution Architect – Global Industry Solutions Team.I studied Mechanical Engineering at RMK Engineering College. I started my journey at RMK Engineering College in 2005. When I first started college, I was a bit apprehensive about “Ragging” which usually happens in college. But I was relieved that RMK has a strict “No Ragging” policy which all students abide by. Moreover, I found that most of our Seniors were approachable & helpful. As my studies progressed, I came to realize that the Mechanical Department was like a family to me. All my professors looked out for me and when I stumbled, they were there to help me out. Most of them were patient & answered my dumb questions.
The College lab facilities were far beyond the Anna University mandate and the lab staff helped and taught us, fully utilizing these facilities. I spent a considerable amount of time in the college library after classes. I felt at home at the library which contained tons of hard copy books & online journals. The college also has a top-notch sports facility although I must confess, I hadn’t utilized it much.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention about the awesome, mouth-watering food served at the college. I still remember the taste of the Biryani served at the college. The management made sure that the students are fed nutritious & tasty food and they never limited the quantity of food served. They even served evening snacks for students staying back. The college also boasts of a transport service which touches all parts of the city ferrying students in a safe & efficient manner. I am grateful to the several rounds of bus services provided in the evening by the college. This helped me stay at the library for long hours after classes and still catch a college bus home.
I always felt an unchallenged optimism during my college days. RMK Engineering College helped me improve my self-confidence and it nurtured logical thinking. It gave us great many opportunities to better ourselves. The 4 years I spent at RMK Engineering College transformed me and made me ready to face the world. I will always fondly remember the fun times spent with friends at the college.
