Concrete and Form Work

Centre of Excellence on “CONCRETE AND FORMWORK” in association with L&T Construction, Chennai was inaugurated in the academic year 2017-18 with the prime objective to impart design of formwork and inculcate in the students the present industrial needs on formwork, bridging the gap between industry and academia. Centre of Excellence on “Concrete and formwork” will help the trained students to design different formwork systems and concrete mix proportions suitable for various complex projects fulfilling the needs of the construction industry.

A set of students are selected through aptitude test conducted by L & T Construction to develop their knowledge and skill on Concrete and formwork. The selected students undergo hands on training to understand the different materials and components used in design of formwork at L & T skill training centre, CSTI, Kanchipuram followed by in-house training at R.M.K.E.C. After the training, students get themselves prepared to face the interview process by L & T Construction and other leading construction companies. During pandemic the training was conducted online followed by placement process.

Internships & Placements:

Internships are given to students at L & T Constructions to enhance their knowledge in the domain. Students are provided with an opportunity to work with L & T Constructions. Internships and placement offer received by students during the past years is provided below.

Research:

A project on “Development of Digital Formwork Pressure Monitoring System Using Sensors” in association with L & T Construction is sanctioned and sponsoredfor an amount of Rs. 27, 20,696/- by DST under DST-DDP scheme is ongoing with the objective of developing a digitized pressure monitoring system using sensors for measuring pressure exerted by fresh concrete on the formwork at construction sites.
