About Central Library
RMKEC Central Library is located in Swaminadha Naidu Block covers an area of 930 Sq.m. The ultra modern Library has a well established fully air conditioned Library and Information Centre. The Library and Information centre is separate reading and reference section to service the Undergraduate and Post graduate students, staff members and research scholars. The annual budget of our Central Library around 60 Lakhs. The Central Library is covered with huge collection of 1,02,632 Volumes and 28,175 Titles, covering all major fields of science and engineering technology with international standard resources. Books are classified and arranged according to the Dewey decimal classification (DDC – 22nd Ed.) scheme.
The Library has subscribed for the e-journals package for AICTE Suggested IEEE, IETE, IEI, DELNET, NDL and also subscribed of 84 National Journals and 71 National technical magazines and General magazines. The Library providing for the staff and students such as OPAC, Multimedia, Internet, and Proceedings, Reports and CD ROMs Collections. Separate reprographic facilities are available for photocopying of reference materials, journals articles and other printed materials. We are providing the NPTEL (National Program Technology Enhanced Learning) through online web and web video courses in engineering and humanities stream.
The library has an Institutional Membership with several external libraries such as, British Council Library, Anna University Library and DELNET, our Institution has an Institutional life members in Institution of Engineers (India)(IEI), Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering(IETE) and Instrument Society of India (ISI).
Meritorious students (top rank holders) of all the department are motivated with prize books worth more than Rs. 7 Lakhs every year based on their academic performance. They are also permitted to borrow additional books from the central library. A book bank is maintained for the benefit of hostel and other deserving students. The library has separate standard library automation package, Auto-Lib Integrated Library Management Software – Web Based Advanced Edition V 23.1 & International OPAC with AI Powered Nextgen app for their effective library services such as issue, return, renewal and reservation of resources. As a part of library information service daily news updates related to Engineering and education is shared to all the faculty members and students.
The “Daily News” related to Engineering and Education is shared to the student groups every day. The department library committee members will go through the newspapers and collect the news relevant to engineering and education as per the weekly schedule. The content is typed for one page as “Daily News” and is shared with all HoDs and library committee members to share it to the students.
Professional Librarians and Technical Assistants help the users with their information needs. The college Library committee is headed by the principal comprising of all Heads of departments and Students Representatives.
