The department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 2006 with a vision to impart quality education and to produce professionally competent civil engineers with right attitude and social responsibility for accomplishing global needs. The department is enriched with a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty members, specialized in diversified stream of civil engineering.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

The department is well equipped with state-of-the art laboratory facilities and modern equipment for providing hands on training to the students. The department has received 88 University ranks with 4 gold medals from Anna University since its inception. The department has good interaction with industries, which facilitates the students to acquire placement, internship and in-plant training opportunities to become industry ready with required skill sets. The department has established a Centre of excellence on Concrete and Formwork in association with L & T Construction. The department has received Construction Industry award 2014 for the excellence in Civil Engineering education, ICI – Ultratech award for the Outstanding Students’ Chapter for two consecutive years 2015 and 2016 and Best Engineering College Student Chapter of India 2017 from Institution of Engineers, India. The program is accredited by National board of accreditation, NBA.

PROFESSIONAL SOCIETIES AND ACTIVITIES

The department is associated with various professional societies such as Indian Concrete Institute (ICI), Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI) and Indian Green building Council (IGBC). Civil Engineering Students’ Association (CESA) is very active in organizing various technical events through the professional societies. The professional society chapters are very active and various technical events are organized and conducted under its banner for the benefits of students. The department organizes a national level technical symposium, “Colosseum” every year as a part of the Civil Engineering Students’ Association activities to develop technical and leadership skills among the students.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

The department is actively involved in R&D activities and received funding from various funding agencies like DST, AICTE, DAE etc. Students are motivated to carry out inhouse/inter-disciplinary projects. Many such projects have been completed and implemented in the campus with the help of faculty mentors.  Faculty members are engaged in carrying out consultancy projects and material testing and consultancy in the laboratory for various industries.

CAREER ENHANCEMENT

The department organizes various training programs, mock interview, workshops and invited talks for career enhancement of students. The department has close association with alumni which helps to mould the students in opting their career (Placement/ higher studies/ Entrepreneur) of right choice.
